How to Use Sound Therapy

Sound Therapy dates back thousands of years, using tonal frequencies to move and unblock energy to bring the body into a state of vibrational balance and harmony. Sound Therapy is a type of Energy Healing, which is the holistic use of vibrational energy to heal, balance and harmonize the body on all levels, body, mind and soul. 

Sound therapy is soothing, calming and relaxing and has been used in many cultures as a healing tool, it may include the use of vocal chanting, and instruments.

How you can Use Sound Therapy

A sound bath healing is a beautiful relaxing experience, the recipient lies down in a comfortable position and soaks up the healing vibrations of the various sounds. Each sound bath healing session is different as you relax into a meditative state and let the experience unfold. Sound bath healings are conducted by practitioners and can be received as a group or you can have private sessions. You can also practice sound healing yourself by humming or chanting or using various instruments.

Instruments

Crystal Singing Bowls – are made from quartz crystal and come in various sizes. To play gently tap the outer rim of the bowl then glide the mallet around the outer rim of the bowl. They are used to cleanse and balance the chakras. 

Gong – A gong is a flat circular metal disc, they come in various sizes. To play it is struck with a mallet. A Gong is very effective at moving stagnant and blocked energy.

Tibetan Singing Bowls – consist of a smooth metal bowl and a wooden mallet, they come in a variety of sizes. To play the Tibetan singing bowl use the mallet to strike the rim of the bowl for a clear sharp sound. Strike the outside of the bowl at the base for a lower sound. To create a high ringing sound, trace the mallet around the rim of the bowl in a circular motion. A Tibetan bowl can be used to cleanse a room.

Tibetan Bells – consist of two nearly flat circular bells joined together by a leather cord. To play use your thumb and index finger to hold the leather cord just above the bells. Gently bring the bells together so the rims strike each other. Tibetan bells  are used to clear the mind.

Drum – is traditionally a type of skin stretched across a round wooden base. To play you can use your hand or a mallet for a variety of sounds. Playing a drum is excellent for stress release.

Didgeridoo -Is a wind instrument made from hollow wood. It is played with continuously vibrating lips in a special breathing technique called circular breathing. Can be used for visualization and spiritual journeys

Rattle – consists of a handle with a round or oval shaped head containing seeds. To play, hold the handle and shake in a rhythmic motion. Rattles are great to cleanse and recharge the aura.

There are many ways to incorporate sound into your daily life. Listen to different types of music, sing or chant by yourself or with a group. Use sound to raise your vibrational frequency and for the pure enjoyment it can bring you.
